Fabric selection determines the durability, weight, comfort, and price of camping furniture. Denier (D) measures fibre thickness — higher denier means heavier, stronger fabric. Kingmax Outdoor uses four primary fabric grades: 300D polyester (budget/lightweight), 600D polyester (standard), 900D polyester (heavy-duty), and 1000D ripstop nylon (military grade). Each grade has different UV resistance, waterproofing, tear strength, and cost profiles. This guide helps buyers match fabric grade to product positioning and end-user expectations.
Denier measures the weight of 9,000 metres of a single fibre in grams. A 600D polyester fabric uses fibres weighing 600 grams per 9,000 metres. Higher denier = thicker fibres = stronger, heavier, more abrasion-resistant fabric. For camping furniture seats and backs, denier directly impacts how long the fabric lasts under UV exposure, body weight stress, and outdoor abrasion. Kingmax recommends 600D as the standard for consumer camping furniture and 1000D for commercial or military applications.
All Kingmax fabrics receive UV-resistant coating (UPF 50+) as standard, but higher denier fabrics retain UV resistance longer — 600D maintains colour for 2+ years of regular outdoor use, while 300D may fade noticeably after 1 year. Waterproofing is applied via PVC or PU coating on the back side of the fabric. Standard coating provides 1,500 mm water column resistance (light rain). Premium coating achieves 3,000+ mm (sustained rain). Kingmax applies waterproof coating to all outdoor furniture fabrics at no additional cost.
300D polyester: budget camping furniture, promotional items, indoor use — lightweight, low cost, adequate for occasional outdoor use. 600D polyester: the industry standard for consumer camping furniture — balances durability, weight, and cost. Used in 70%+ of Kingmax's production. 900D polyester: heavy-duty applications — commercial use, rental fleets, high-frequency use. 1000D ripstop nylon: military, emergency services, extreme outdoor — maximum tear resistance, highest cost, heaviest weight.
